Department of Tribal Research

Objectives

  • The Department envisages undertaking comprehensive studies relating to tribal communities of Tamil Nadu.
  • To offer training for officers related to and working with tribal communities.
  • To evaluate the impact of the government schemes on the tribal communities and assisting government initiatives
  • To conduct anthropological, linguistic and other aspects of folklore studies, associated with the tribal groups in Tamil Nadu.
  • To organize seminars and trainings programs related to tribal studies
  • To prepare updated ethnographic profile on all tribal communities.
  • To establish a tribal museum
  • To investigate Bio-anthropological and Medical anthropological aspects of tribal groups and their bearing on health and disease problems.
  • To record useful ethno medical and ethno biological information on Tamilnadu tribes.
  • To collect and preserve valuable material cultures of tribal communities as reflected in the tribal artifacts used by them.
