Objectives

To undertake research study on the origin and development of Music and the role of Tamil Music in the larger context of Indian Music and world Music |

To impart practical training in classical Music, dance forms and Folk Music |

To analyse the role of Music in an inter-disciplinary manner with Literature, Dance, Dance-Dramas, Sculpture and Archaeology and other relevant science subjects like Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science and Medicine |

To introduce and popularise rare Tamil musical compositions by conducting annual Music competitions, organising seminars and endowment lectures |
|
To preserve the Musical contributions, photos and recordings of Traditional Musicians, Musicologists and to collect rare musical instruments |
|
To identify and restructure the musical forms as found in the ancient Literature |
|
To encourage students to undertake high level research study on Music and to guide them |
