Department of Scientific Tamil and Tamil Development To give a scientific bias to the development of Modern Tamil by bringing out Publications on science and technology and to popularise science through Tamil to create a scientifc temper among the general public and to make them aware of the scientific advancement and technological progress. Chosen books on Science and Technology are being translated under the aegis of the Department. Preparation of Tamil books on Science, Medicine and Technology with the help of veteran Tamil scholars in the relevant fields is one of the major objectives of the Department. It may be recalled that half-a-dozen Engineering books and a few medical books have been wirtten in Tamil and published by the Tamil University. Compiling the Glossary of Technical Terms in Tamil is also one of aims of the Department. Academic programmes exist for M.Phil, and Ph.D research in Scientific Tamil.
