Department of Industries and Earth Sciences The Department of Industries and Earth Sciences offers a Post Graduate degree course in Earth Sciences (M.Sc) besides offering Research degrees at M.Phil., and Ph.D., level. Research in the fields of Earth Sciences - Geology – Petrology, Economic Geology, Geochemistry, Costal Geomorphology, Ocean Sciences, Remote Sensing, GIS ; Urban Geography, Land use Studies, Disaster Management Studies are conducted. The prospects of the mineral wealth of the State of Tamilnadu and its better utilization in the augmentation of industrial development are explored. The Department has an Optics lab, Labs for GIS and Geochemical Analysis. It has all facilities for heavy mineral studies. Several projects, funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi, Department of Ocean Development (DOD), New Delhi, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi, University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi, have been undertaken. The results were of National and International recognition. The Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences and Technology Cell (OASTC), http://www.oastctu.com/ an autonomous body supported by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), New Delhi, is operated in this department. The cell receives project proposals in the fields of Coastal. Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences and after a review by the concerned experts the proposals are sanctioned. .
