The aim of this Department is to publish standard books, treatises and research materials of the faculty in Tamil and English, as the Tamil University has been started as an advanced centre for Tamilology and allied subjects. A full-fledged separate printing press has been functioning in the palace campus of the University. So far 403 titles have been brought out and the coverage includes subjects such as Religion, Philosophy, Epigraphy, Folklore, Anthropology, Medical, Engineering, Sculpture, Music and Drama besides a number of volumes on Language and Literature. Mention may be made of four volumes of mono-lingual Tamil Dictionary, a few books on Engineering and a few more on Surgery in Tamil. These are not translations but written originally in the regional language and suitable to use as text books in academic institutions in the days to come.
