Dr.M.Rajendran, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil University, Thanjavur
Dr.M.Rajendran assumed office as the new Vice-Chancellor of Tamil University, Thanjavur. He was born in the village called Eda.Annavasal in Tiruvarur District, Tamil Nadu. He got his Pulavar Diploma in the Rajah's College at Tiruvaiyaru, his M.A. Degree in Pachaiyappa's College, Chennai and M.Phil. Research Degree from the same College. Following his academic pursuits, he obtained his Doctorate in Madras University under the able guidance of the renowned Tamil Professor Dr.N.Sanjivi of Madras Uuniversity. He worked as Assistant Professor in Pachaiyappa's college and as Tamil Pulavar in the Government Oriental Institute of Manuscripts, Chennai. He was Director of Translation, and Director of Tamil Development, Government of Tamilnadu and as Director-in-Charge of the International Institute of Tamil Studies, Chennai. He also served as the Director-in-Charge of Tamil Etymological Dictionary and dedicated resolutely his thirty four years of service to the cause of the de velopment of Tamil language, literature and culture. He is an eminent scholar and has written several outstanding books and scholarly articles on varied aspect of Tamil language and literature.
Contribution towards Tamil Development He contributed his Tamil scholarship to several research organizations like Dravidian University and International School of Dravidian Linguistics. He contributed his erudition by participating himself in the committees such as Sahitya Academy Selection Committee and Tamil Cinema-Title Naming Committee and by editing the Tamil Manuscripts, sublimating and reviving the Greater Tamil Lexicon, Glossary of Administrative Terms, Computer for Tamil Development,Translation of Tamil Classical mass of literature into other Indian languages, World Tamil (Sangam) Confederation, History of Tamil Literature through the Ages, Documentation of Tamil
Classical Literature in soft copies. He wrote as many as 21 books and innumerable articles which include the publications of Mackenzie's manuscripts, history, fiction, biography and reviews. He conducted hundreds of seminars for the furtherance of Tamil research and himself participated and presented highly esteemed papers in National and International Conferences.

- It is decided to collect all the findings related to Tamilology and create a Tamil Research Bank.
- It is also planned to create a website through which all the theses of the Ph.D.,M.Phil and all the referred projects that are available with the Tamil Research Organisations to disseminate worldwide all matters relevant to Language and Literature.
- To bring forth e-magazine in which all the research articles published in the journals and periodicals shall be made known to the entire Tamil speaking people.
- To execute the reformation of syllabus, new learning process in order to keep abreast of the latest trend.
- To preserve the ancient invaluable treasures of palm-leaf manuscripts, inscriptions and all rare Tamil books through electronic scanning technology and digitilization.
- To create a Tamil Word Bank in the website.
- To utilise the Tamil language scientifically in tune with the changing condition of the present day world.
